Let's Put Together a Few Impressive Tasty Platters…
This Platter... with lots of Barossa touches... and a glass of red... Oh so good.
Try one of these different platters of easy appetizers for a picnic... without cooking!
Gather a selection of appetizers...
A Barossa Valley platter
... from our favorite wine region in South Australia
- Dill cucumbers... cornichons
- pickled onions
- artisan olives
- pate
- metwurst
- salami
- tasty cheeses
- dried biscuits
- interesting small breads
A lightweight platter makes it easy to carry to the picnic.
Fill a bowl with dried biscuits... or slices of a French stick... or pumpernickel bread slices. Place this in the middle, or off to one side of the platter. Even all of these together make a special platter!
Arrange all the other appetizers around this.
A sharp knife is handy to cut salami, and cheese... and a small serving knife is used for pate serving. You can use a little fork for Dill cucumbers and pickled onions, but often at a picnic people use their fingers to dive in!
A pile of napkins to wipe those fingers is a help too.
Crunchy vegetables with pesto...
- sun dried, semi dried tomatoes
- capsicum
- little/baby carrots
- cucumber
- radishes
- young fresh asparagus
Cut vegetables into long "fingers" and accompany with a bowl of basil pesto, or hummus, for dipping. Vegetables look great standing up in a glass, or jar, where they can be picked up in fingers to dip.
How about a seafood platter with pickled…
- mussels
- oysters
- prawns
- calamari
- scallops
- and your local seafood delicacy too.
Arrange little bowls for seafood, or just arrange on the platter with little forks to serve.
Simply as they are, they are very delicious, but a bowl of seafood sauce is also nice with these choices.
You will need small biscuits to go with them... or croutons... or French sticks cut into rounds.
Slithers of fresh lemon, or a lemon to squeeze, adds a tang too.
Just add the lemon on the the platter with the seafood.
Try pancetta, or thin slices of ham, a dob of cream cheese,
then add one of these...
- figs
- dates
- dried or fresh apricots
- slices of fresh fruit
- dill cucumbers
Make your own combinations on thin rounds of a French stick, or dried biscuits.
Pancetta, or ham, to wrap around the fruit just on it's own is fresh and tasty too.
Wrap pancetta, or thinly sliced ham, around any of these fruits...
Hold together with little wooden toothpick.
- figs
- dates
- prunes
- dried apricots
- dried apple
- dried peaches
- fresh rock melon... green, or orange melon
- a big grape or two
Prepare this before and stick a toothpick through to hold them together.
When you "buy me a coffee" it is very much
appreciated.
